Biography

Starting his dance journey at a slightly later stage of 15 years old, Joseph Chua dance training and passion had only begun at Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, where his passion in dance sparked under the guidance of Jesper Tan. His strong passion for contemporary dance pushed him to attain his The Royal Ballet Academy (RAD) ballet training under the tutelage of Charlyn Lin Xiao Lin. He continued to hone his craft and joined T.H.E Second Company from 2015 to 2017 and learned from both the artistic director and associate artistic director of THE Dance Company Kuik Swee Boon and Silva Yong. Also performing in liTHE 2015, he has worked with overseas choreographer like Sebastian Ledig on “Bouge” and Inma Marin on “Peso”. And for liTHE 2016, he worked with local choreographer Chew Peishan on “Those Decisions”. Upon completing his national service, he decided to continue pursuing dance by attending full time pre professional training at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and he is a NAFA Talent Development Program (NTDP) awardee. He has also accumulated teaching experience, being a contemporary dance instructor in numerous studios like One Dance Asia (ODA) and Performers Ballet Academy. He has learnt and worked with other various overseas and local choreographers/artists such as Kim Jae Duk, Billy William Keohavong, Ezekiel Oliveira, Lee Mun Wai, Yarra Ileto, Zhuo Zihao, Wu Mi, Venetia Lim, Marcus Foo, Goh Shou Yi, Jackie Ong, and Nah Jie Ying. Joseph aims to inspire and share his passion of dance with as many people as possible and using dance to express his thoughts and emotions, allowing the audience to enjoy watching and appreciate dance.
